NOTE:  I wrote the first draft of this post nearly two weeks ago.  Life intervened in the form of apples to be canned and the bathroom to be painted.  Meanwhile, fall has definitely arrived.  The last of the humming birds have flown, mornings are crisp, and the cerulean Arizona sky is a harder blue.
