Marylanders love rockfish, also known  as striped bass. Rockfish is the state fish, the main ingredient in cooking contests, and the top catch in local saltwater fishing tournaments. At one point in Maryland's history there were so many rockfish that they were used to fertilize fields, but overfishing led to a decline in their population.
