It's colorful, summery and very British. It's Battenberg cake. A checker board design sponge cake, with apricot jam and covered in marzipan, Battenberg cake  dates  back to 1884. The cake was baked to celebrate Prince Louis of Battenberg  Germany marrying Princess Victoria, granddaughter of Queen Victoria. The cake starts with yellow and pink sponge cake.
