I used opal {purple} basil because that is what I grow in my garden, but any variety of basil will work. Additionally the same is true of the figs, any type that is fresh and available works {green, brown, etc.}. I think vodka is the best way to showcase the basil and fig combination, but I am partial to gin as well. The longer you let the basil and figs soak in the booze the more flavorful the cocktail will be, but all you really need is to let them sit for about 30 minutes.
