This is a recipe I first came across in the Amish settlement of Aylmer, Ontario.  I had always wanted to make it - and try it - before but the idea of the caramelly mess on the bottom of a saucepan always scared me away.  But, turns out, I was unnecessarily scared.  Friends Paula and Jay
